Sehr geehrte Geschäftspartner,
voller Trauer teilen wir mit, dass unser ehemaliger langjähriger Geschäftsführer und Gründer der KUIPERS technologies GmbH Wilhelm Kuipers am 28. August 2024 nach kurzer schwerer Krankheit im Alter von 69 Jahren verstorben ist.
Wilhelm Kuipers ist 1979 nach dem Studium zum Dipl.-Volkswirt in das elterliche Unternehmen KUIPERS Metall- und Kunststoffbau eingetreten. Neben klassischen Metallbauarbeiten wurden Fenster, Türen und Fassaden hergestellt und montiert. Besonders der wachsende Bedarf an Blechfassaden ließ sich handwerklich kaum noch bedienen. Wilhelm Kuipers erkannte früh das Potential der damals revolutionären CNC-Blechbearbeitung. 1989 investierte er in die erste CNC-gesteuerte Stanz-Nibbelmaschine und schaffte so den Grundstein für die KUIPERS technologies GmbH. Durch gezielte und intensive Kundenakquise entwickelte sich der ursprünglich im Metallbau angesiedelte Bereich Blechbearbeitung sprunghaft weiter und wurde 1990 in eine eigene Firma ausgegliedert, die KUIPERS CNC-Blechtechnik GmbH, anfangs mit 2 Mitarbeitern. Zeitgleich zur Neugründung übernahm Wilhelm Kuipers 1990 auch die Geschäftsführung der KUIPERS Metall- und Kunststoffbau GmbH von seinem Vater und führte das Unternehmen nun in dritter Generation fort. Besonderes Interesse hatte Wilhelm Kuipers an der neuen Lasertechnik, und so investierte er in die ersten CNC-Laserschneidmaschinen, was für weiteres Wachstum sorgte.
Das Betriebsgrundstück in Meppen Nödike wurde schnell zu klein. Da keine geeigneten und ausreichenden Flächen am Standort Meppen Nödike zur Verfügung standen, fasste Wilhelm Kuipers 2004 den Entschluss zum Neubau einer Produktionshalle am neuen Standort im Industriegebiet Meppen Hüntel. 2005 wurde die neue Produktionshalle mit Verwaltungsgebäude bezogen. Durch gezielte Neukundengewinnung wurde bereits im Jahr 2006 - nur ein Jahr nach dem Umzug an den Standort Hüntel - die erste Erweiterung erforderlich. Wilhelm Kuipers fasste im gleichen Jahr den Entschluss, die KUIPERS Metall- und Kunststoffbau GmbH in die Bereiche Metallbau und Kunststoffbau aufzuteilen und zu verkaufen und sich voll und ganz auf die rasant wachsende KUIPERS CNC-Blechtechnik GmbH zu konzentrieren.
Auch die Implementierung der ersten Industrieroboter im Jahr 2005 zeugte von unternehmerischer Weitsicht. Wilhelm Kuipers baute das Unternehmen in den folgenden Jahren konsequent aus und übergab es im Jahr 2017 mit rund 35 Laser-, Stanz- und Biegemaschinen, modernsten Robotern sowie mit einer Größe von seinerzeit 20.000 m² und mit rund 250 Mitarbeitern an seinen Sohn Michael Kuipers, der sein Lebenswerk in vierter Generation seit dem fortführt.
Wilhelm Kuipers engagierte sich stark in der Verbandsarbeit, als Mitglied der IHK Vollversammlung, im Regional- sowie im Industrieausschuss und im Industrie- und Handelsclub der IHK Osnabrück Emsland Grafschaft Bentheim, als Beiratsmitglied des industriellen Arbeitgeberverbands Osnabrück (IAV), als Vorstandsmitglied im Wirtschaftsverband Emsland, als Vorstandsmitglied der Mittelstandsvereinigung Meppen (MIT), als Lenkungskreismitglied des emsländischen Metall- und Maschinenbaunetzwerks (MEMA), im Verband deutscher Laseranwender Blechbearbeitung (VdLB) und als Vorstandsmitglied der Metallinnung Meppen. Darüber hinaus war er 23 Jahre lang als ehrenamtlicher Handelsrichter am Landgericht Osnabrück aktiv.
Privat lagen ihm soziale Projekte sehr am Herzen. Jahrelang war er als Mitglied des Kirchenvorstands der Propstei St. Vitus in Meppen aktiv und kümmerte sich um die Friedhöfe. Als Vereinsmitglied bei Spirit Children setzte er sich für die Belange von verstoßenen Kindern in Ghana ein. Er war Redaktionsmitglied der Zeitschrift „Kien tied kien Tied“ in Meppen.
Wilhelm Kuipers war ein Unternehmer mit einer tiefen Herzlichkeit, dessen Hingabe und Einsatz ihm den bleibenden Respekt und die Anerkennung seiner Angestellten einbrachten. Seine Mitarbeiter konnten sich jederzeit mit ihren Problemen und Anliegen an ihn wenden, und er nahm sich die Zeit, ihnen zuzuhören und zu helfen. Er achtete stets darauf, bodenständig zu bleiben, was ihn sowohl als Vorgesetzten als auch als Person sehr geschätzt machte. Auch als Seniorchef war er bei den Mitarbeitern beliebt und respektiert. Er nahm nicht nur am täglichen Geschehen teil, sondern beteiligte sich auch aktiv daran. Im Jahr 2017 übergab er sein Unternehmen an seinen Sohn Michael, doch Wilhelm Kuipers blieb weiterhin fast täglich im Hintergrund aktiv, um mit seiner wertvollen Erfahrung und seinem Wissen zu unterstützen.
Es war sein Lebenswerk, das ihm sehr am Herzen lag und das er viel zu früh und abrupt verlassen musste. Sein unermüdliches Engagement und seine menschliche Wärme hinterlassen ein unauslöschliches Erbe, das noch lange nach seinem Ableben in der Unternehmenskultur weiterleben wird. Wilhelm Kuipers bleibt ein leuchtendes Beispiel dafür, wie ein Unternehmensführer nicht nur durch geschäftlichen Erfolg, sondern auch durch Menschlichkeit und Empathie glänzen kann.

Mourning for Wilhelm Kuipers

Dear business partners,
It is with sadness that we announce that Wilhelm Kuipers, our former long-time managing director and founder of KUIPERS technologies GmbH, passed away on August 28, 2024 after a short, serious illness at the age of 69.
Wilhelm Kuipers joined his parents' company KUIPERS Metall- und Kunststoffbau in 1979 after studying to become a qualified economist. In addition to classic metal construction work, windows, doors and facades were manufactured and installed. In particular, the growing demand for sheet metal facades could hardly be met by craftsmanship. Wilhelm Kuipers recognized early on the potential of CNC sheet metal processing, which was revolutionary at the time. In 1989 he invested in the first CNC-controlled punching and nibbling machine and thus laid the foundation for KUIPERS technologies GmbH. Through targeted and intensive customer acquisition, the sheet metal processing area, which was originally based in metal construction, developed leaps and bounds and was spun off into its own company in 1990, KUIPERS CNC-Blechtechnik GmbH, initially with 2 employees. At the same time as the new company was founded, Wilhelm Kuipers also took over the management of KUIPERS Metall- und Kunststoffbau GmbH from his father in 1990 and has now continued the company in the third generation. Wilhelm Kuipers was particularly interested in the new laser technology, and so he invested in the first CNC laser cutting machines, which ensured further growth.
The company property in Meppen Nödike quickly became too small. Since no suitable and sufficient space was available at the Meppen Nödike location, Wilhelm Kuipers made the decision in 2004 to build a new production hall at the new location in the Meppen Hüntel industrial area. In 2005 the new production hall and administration building were moved into. Through targeted acquisition of new customers, the first expansion became necessary in 2006 - just one year after moving to the Hüntel location. In the same year, Wilhelm Kuipers made the decision to divide and sell KUIPERS Metall- und Kunststoffbau GmbH and to concentrate fully on the rapidly growing KUIPERS CNC-Blechtechnik GmbH.
The implementation of the first industrial robots in 2005 also demonstrated entrepreneurial foresight. Wilhelm Kuipers consistently expanded the company in the following years and in 2017 handed it over to his son Michael Kuipers, with around 35 laser, punching and bending machines, state-of-the-art robots, a size of 20,000 m² and around 250 employees. Since then, the fourth generation has continued his life's work.
Wilhelm Kuipers was heavily involved in the association's work, as a member of the IHK general assembly, in the regional and industrial committee and in the industrial and trade club of the IHK Osnabrück Emsland Grafschaft Bentheim, as a member of the advisory board of the Osnabrück industrial employers' association (IAV), as a board member in the Emsland business association, as a board member of the Meppen Medium-sized Business Association (MIT), as a steering committee member of the Emsland Metal and Mechanical Engineering Network (MEMA), in the Association of German Laser Users Sheet Metal Processing (VdLB) and as a board member of the Meppen Metal Guild. He also worked as a volunteer commercial judge at the Osnabrück Regional Court for 23 years.
In his private life, social projects were very important to him. For years he was active as a member of the church council of the St. Vitus provost in Meppen and looked after the cemeteries. As a member of Spirit Children, he advocated for the needs of abandoned children in Ghana. He was a member of the editorial team of the magazine “Kien tied kien Tied” in Meppen.
Wilhelm Kuipers was an entrepreneur with a deep warmth, whose dedication and commitment earned him the lasting respect and recognition of his employees. His employees could always come to him with their problems and concerns, and he took the time to listen and help them. He always made sure to remain down-to-earth, which made him highly valued both as a manager and as a person. Even as senior manager, he was popular and respected among employees. He not only took part in daily events, but also actively participated in them. In 2017 he handed over his company to his son Michael, but Wilhelm Kuipers remained active in the background almost every day to provide support with his valuable experience and knowledge.
It was his life's work, which was very close to his heart and which he had to leave far too early and abruptly. His tireless commitment and human warmth left an indelible legacy that will live on in the company culture long after his passing. Wilhelm Kuipers remains a shining example of how a business leader can shine not only through business success, but also through humanity and empathy.
